2014 Goodreads Reading Challenge

At the end of 2013, I had a resolution to read more in 2014. I wanted to make more time for reading & finishing books that always seem to strike my fancy. I started out writing every book that I read in a pretty little journal, but then I misplaced the journal and fell off the reading wagon. Thankfully, I found Goodreads, a website/app that makes this kind of resolution pretty simple.

If you're like me, a little healthy self-competition is always good. Goodreads allows you to set a challenge for yourself for the year. You decide how many books you want to try to read and then work toward your challenge by adding the books you read to your list. You can also build your virtual bookshelf, which I find very helpful when shopping for books or creating a wishlist. For example, you can list which volumes of a certain graphic novel you have so when you hit the bookstore, you know which ones to buy. You can also recommend books to friends, review what you read, take quizzes and even win books!

I am happy to say that I have officially completed and surpassed my goal of 30 books by reading 34 books this year. Some of the highlights are:

1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

2. Through the Woods by Emily Carroll

3. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

4. The Hardest Peace by Kara Tippetts

5. Revival by Stephen King

I encourage you to start your own Goodreads challenge as 2015 starts! Check out one of the books I recommended above if you're looking for something to start the year off with a bang! If you'd like to follow my literary escapades, you can follow my profile here. I plan to set my goal at 50 books in 2015, so we'll see how it goes!

Let's fill the new year with books upon books!
