31 Days of Halloween: Spooky Music Videos

They look like an okay group

"Bottom of the River"- Delta Rae
The first time I saw this music video, it was right around Halloween and I showed it to anyone who would listen to me. I loved the effects (watch the mirror at the very beginning), the concept and the song. This video is creepy, it's  filmed in one shot and the lyrics are just so evocative! I've read a lot of different criticism discussing what viewers think this song is about. I have my opinions. What do you think?

"Dance Tonight"- Paul McCartney
The video, directed by Academy Award winning French director, Michel Gondry, features Natalie Portman, Mackenzie Cook and of course, Paul McCartney. This video just makes me happy! It's spooky, whimsical and sort of reminds me of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland! I challenge you to not dance in your seat to this song and I'll almost guarantee that you'll be singing it, even days later!

"Everybody (Backstreet's Back)"- Backstreet Boys
You may be asking yourself several questions at this point: Why is she posting this video? Why does that werewolf have frosted tips? Why does Kevin's shirt have to be open in every Backstreet Boys video EVER? I don't have any answers for you. All I know is that I loved this music video when it came out and I loved it even more when I learned that they filmed it in the same house that  "Casper" had been filmed. While the execution is decidedly cheesy, the concept is spot-on and years later I'm still watching, so that must say something.

"Thriller"- Michael Jackson
I just have to include this one. While I'm sure most everyone has seen it, I feel like it is a staple when we talk about Halloween music videos. This video, directed by John Landis, is more like a short film than a music video. It is chalk full of classic monster movie references, including the warning at the end.

"Thriller" has been applauded as an unprecedented moment in time of merging of music and film and is considered by some to be the most successful music video of all time. In 2009, "Thriller" was inducted into the National Film Registry, making it the first music video to ever receive that honor. It has been called culturally, historically & aesthetically significant. And if none of that means anything to you, have you ever been to a Halloween party where you haven't done this dance? Yeah, me either! Bonus: Listen for Vincent Price's voice-over throughout the video and his uncredited cameo at the end.

Happy Haunting, Friends!
