I have 6 totes of costuming pieces in my possession. And I'm not talking little totes; I'm talking 6 pack-up-your-entire-life-Rubbermaid totes of clothing specifically designated for costuming. Needless to say, I love getting dressed up and Halloween is certainly the most socially acceptable time to do that. I have men's and women's costumes, kids costumes and maybe even a dog costume. Most of, if not all of the costumes were purchased over the years at different thrift stores. Some were handmade by my mother or myself. My family has always been very into making our own Halloween costumes, and I've certainly tried to keep the tradition alive. Homemade costumes just have so much more character and creativity and let's face it! They're usually cheaper than the store bought costumes!
Some of my past costumes include:
A bag of Chipotle chips. Yeah, we did this to get a free burrito.... |
David Bowie. Maybe one of my best creations to date. |
Joon from 'Benny & Joon" |
Irene Adler from Sherlock Holmes fame. Rick was Sherlock, but of course. |
Cindy Lauper. This photo was taken at my favorite Halloween party EVER. So much fun! Wolfman's Bar Mitzvah forever! |
Last year's costume was Mary Poppins. Rick was Bert, but somehow I don't have a picture of us together. How did that happen? |
Last year's school costume- A Rodeo Queen. The kids loved my crown and so did I! |
Scott Pilgrim & Ramona Flowers from the Bryan Lee O'Malley comic series. |
A Saloon Girl |
The Illuminator, a super hero I made up. |
Work appropriate costume. Any excuse to wear a poofy skirt! |
Ramona Flowers |
What are some of your favorite past Halloween costumes? If you've never made your own costume, I encourage you to head out to your local thrift and craft stores and try to come up with something spectacular! Anything you can buy in a store or online can be made at home. Give it a shot! As for me, I'm still cooking up some ideas for this year, so be sure to stay tuned!!
Wow!! I love them all!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks, lady!! I wanted to post some pics of my costumes from when I was a kid (which you'd be sure to make an appearance!) but I'll probably have to wait for a later post. Thanks for reading my blog, by the way!! :)
