Do you ever have one of those long weekends that start off as a super-mega bummer where you're thinking, "Can this weekend just be done already?" But by the time it comes for the weekend to end, you don't want it to? Well, that was my Memorial Day weekend.
Without giving you too many specifics, I should let you know that I get really excited about plans. Any kind of plans. Scheduled plans as well as last minute exciting plans.
Like, little kid excited.
And if those plans fall through, the disappointment is so real. God bless my parents & brother for putting up with Lil' Kimberly, because my coping mechanisms have only become better in my old age & I'm still not the best. Couple this past weekend's disappointment with (perhaps TMI) a healthy heap of hormones & you have me at the start of last weekend. Lil' & teenaged Kimberly must have been INSUFFERABLE, folks. I mean, it's truly amazing my family didn't send me away. Thankfully, I've blocked out most of my adolescent years. I'm only half kidding.
Maybe.
Though I'm still prone to moments of pessimism & disappointment, I've realized that it's much better to be optimistic, even when things are all going wrong. At the end of the day, I'm happier if I've made an honest attempt to keep my chin up, no matter what punches life throws at me.
Pro Tips:
If everything is going down the tubes-
1. Get outside & look at some rocks, flowers & water. Go on a run or a long walk. Go swimming. Breathe in the fresh air.
2. Drink a tall glass of water & have a small snack. Get you some raw almonds or a piece of toast with some peanut butter up on it! You wouldn't be surprised how many mega-meltdowns are directly related to hanger & a little protein boost can only help your mood.
3. Make a list of alternate plans or write down a bunch of things your thankful for.
4. Call your best friend or significant other.
5. Try to remember that a bad hour/afternoon/day doesn't equal a bad life.
