Thrifting Thursday: Style Lend

Over the Broke But Bougie Youtube channel, I recently heard about a service called Style Lend and I have to admit, I was intrigued!

Style Lend is a service, currently only available in San Francisco, that allows women to rent dresses for special events, instead of buying a dress that they might only wear once.

Now, if you're like me, this probably isn't a problem you have. I don't generally buy a dress unless I know I'm going to get a lot of wear out of it, but I also don't go to an abundance of special events. I could see if you were going to a fancy dress event and didn't want to buy a new dress or wear one of your old bridemaid's dresses, this might be a really good option! You can rent a dress in as little as 24 hours, so if something comes up at the last minute, you're covered!

The dresses are categorized by style/event: Spring, Black & White, Gala, Night Out, Cocktail & Wedding. You can also filter by size and amount you want to pay to rent the dress. The dresses range in price from $20-$200 and come in a variety of sizes. But, again, a service like this is only as good as it's community. The more women that sign up to lend dresses, the better the selection of style and sizes.

In terms of lending dresses, this actually sounds like a pretty sweet deal. You might be asking why lend when you can just sell or consign your dress? Lending allows you the option of still wearing the dress again and in 1 or 2 rentals you can earn the same amount as consigning! And if your one of those gals that has a ton of different dresses, all in really great quality, why not make some money off of them? You can only wear one outfit at a time, so let your closet do some work for you!

Does this sound like a service that you would use? If there was a Style Lend branch in your city would you be nervous to rent or lend dresses or does this sound like a fix for a lot of your special event needs? Style Lend is looking to expand to a new city soon, so who knows? It might just be your city!

Happy Thrifting Thursday!
