Some of my favorite times in college were the Valentine's Day outings I had with my girl friends. We would get all gussied up, make a reservation at Johnny Carino's or the Olive Garden (so swanky!) and head out on the town! Sometimes a few of our single guy friends would join us, but more often than not it was just the girls. And do you want to know the really great part? I don't remember ever feeling sorry for myself. I don't remember ever wishing I was one half of one of the couples we saw because I was truly happy with the company at my own table.
I'm not getting up on a soap box here. I know Valentine's Day can be a rough time of the year for some people and talking about the power of friendship isn't going to fix that. But for me, it was always a good excuse to put on a dress I wouldn't normally get to wear and hang out with some people that I loved and enjoyed their company. And now that we've all scattered to different places and I don't get to hang out with my girlfriends nearly as much as I would like, I definitely miss it.
