Thrifting Thursday: $1 Garden Mirror DIY

We've been working on some easy updates for our back patio this summer! We don't have a huge budget to do any of these projects, so I tried to come up with things we could DIY or thrift. We found some cafe lights (which make even the saddest patio magical), started a container garden & did a little thrifted DIY! I saw a few pictures on Pinterest of people who hung mirrors in their backyards & I thought it was such an inspired idea!

Our Project

We have a relatively small backyard, so mirrors allow us to trick our friends & family into thinking we have a bigger space than we do.

I'm all about lying to people that I love.

So, a few weekends ago I found two ornate mirrors at a garage sale for $1 a piece. I bought a can of flat gray primer spray paint to make the frames uniform & went to town! I taped off the glass which is optional. You could always scape it if you don't have any painters tape. Then spray away! I did two coats, making sure to get the inside rim of the mirrors & double checking the sides. There are definitely some imperfections, but it's certainly good enough to sit in our garden & look pretty!

I grabbed two small nails & hammered them into the posts of our side fence. Voila! Instant whimsy activated! I hope to pick up at least two more mirrors, but I think it looks pretty good right now! It looks especially lovely with the cafe lights on at night!

Have you done any thrifty projects in your backyard lately? I would love to hear about it!
